SUMMARY

Assistant Caregivers are responsible for assisting the Lead Caregiver in providing a nurturing safe environment, which allows children to participate in activities designed to enhance their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Assistant Caregivers are required to work an average of 6-8 hours per day. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures that staff follow all school and licensing procedures
  • Responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the classroom program and child assessment
  • Communicates with families regularly regarding schedules, payments, and student information
  • Assist in ensuring all students on daily attendance sheet are accounted for as necessary and keeps accurate records of parent sign-in and sign-out times
  • Tends to needs of children with medical conditions
  • Assist in ensuring all forms are filled out accurately including medication, accident, and disciplinary forms
  • Obtains minimum of 16 training hours per year
  • Consults with Coordinator and building administrator to establish appropriate strategies for dealing with challenging behavior
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator               

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Must provide documentation from the Department of Human Services that he/she has not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect before having contact with a child in care.
  2. Be at least 18 years of age
  3. Have earned a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  4. CPR & First Aid Certification Preferred.
  5. Obtains minimum of 16 training hours in early childhood per year.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Job performance is evaluated annually in accordance with the policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Warren Woods Public Schools Board of Education.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students,
  • staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with individuals and groups of students to support academics and behavior management.
  • Must have patience working with special needs children.
  • Ability to learn new skills, flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Works well with others, follows written and oral directions and completes assignments given.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, staff members, and departments and business contacts outside of the District.
  • Is self-directed, and works without direct supervision.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with district requirements and School Board Policies.
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff, students, and parents.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions, While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 50 pounds of materials, or lift children, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
